    The entry in brief

Great Northern Casino was established in 1999. It describes its home as Grande Prairie in the Peace Country, with 30,000 square feet of entertainment space. Over that time it has helped raise funds for over 400 local charities.

Ownership changed in 2026. PURE Casino Entertainment added the casino when it acquired Gamehost Inc., and the sale closed on June 24, 2026. The deal went through Indigenous Gaming Partners and Pure Casino Entertainment Limited Partnership. The casino kept its name and operates as usual. The main line is 780-539-4454.

    The Winner's Edge card

Winner's Edge is AGLC's province-wide loyalty program, used at many Alberta casinos, and Great Northern Casino's site links to it. The card is picked up at Guest Services with government ID, and members must be 18 or older. Members can set spending and time limits and alerts with the GameSense My Activity and Budgeting Tools, at the Winner's Edge kiosk in any Alberta casino or online. People enrolled in self-exclusion cannot hold a card. The casino's "VIP CLUB" is an email newsletter, not a players club.

    Online play in Alberta

Alberta's regulated online gaming market launched on July 13, 2026. The Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC) manages it, and AGLC regulates it. To operate legally, an operator needs AGLC registration and an operating agreement with AiGC. Play Alberta (PlayAlberta.ca) is the province's own site, run by AGLC. Any operator can be checked in AiGC's directory at abigaming.ca, and one missing from it is not regulated.

The legal gambling age in Alberta is 18. Paid links on the Record's home page are marked Ad. They lead to a private online casino partner, not to Play Alberta, and the Record earns a commission. The partner can change.
