The regulated online market

Alberta's regulated online gaming market launched on July 13, 2026. The Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC) manages the market, and AGLC regulates it. To operate legally, an online operator must register with AGLC and sign an operating agreement with AiGC. At launch, 22 registered iGaming sites were approved.

Registered operators must make sure only players physically located in Alberta can play. The rule turns on where the player is at the moment of play.

Play Alberta, at PlayAlberta.ca, is the province's own online gaming site. It is run by AGLC, and its revenue goes to the Government of Alberta. None of this covers Great Northern Casino on 107 Avenue, a land-based venue with its own hours and rules.

Checking a site

AiGC keeps a directory of registered iGaming sites at abigaming.ca/players/registered-igaming-sites. If an operator is not in that directory, it is not regulated. Approved operators display the AiGC logo. The directory applies to every site, whatever page sent the reader there.

Age is the other fixed line. The legal gambling age in Alberta is 18. Casino staff must check valid government-issued photo ID for anyone who appears to be under 25.

How the Record is paid

The Record is an independent guide that takes no bets and has no accounts. Paid links appear on the home page only, and each is marked Ad. There are three: a button in the menu, a block just below the first screen and one near the end of the page. All three go to one private online casino partner, which pays the Record a commission and can change.

In Alberta, anyone who advertises an online gaming site must follow AGLC's standards. Ads must carry a responsible gambling message. They must not target minors or use people who appear to be minors. Linking gaming to attractiveness or status is not allowed.
